Hygiene and safety are very important in hospitals. Patients, staff and visitors need to be in a clean and safe environment. But a lot happens in hospitals. Walls and floors are exposed to dirt, bacteria and other contaminants on a daily basis. A non-hygienic or sterile environment can be disastrous for patients.

Walls must be resistant to dirt, bacteria and chemicals. They should be easy to clean and stay clean over time.

This is achieved with a good wall coating for hospitals. adhesives+coatings offers a durable solution for wall coatings in hospitals. A rock solid polyurethane coating that has all the properties needed to keep a hospital clean and safe.

Hygienic wall coating for hospitals

In a hospital, rooms should be spotlessly clean. If the environment around patients and staff is not clean, there can be (further) health consequences. But keeping walls and floors clean can be a challenge.

Think about what happens in operating rooms, emergency rooms, laboratories, kitchens, patient rooms, but also about all the people who touch the walls in public areas.

Walls and floors are exposed to contaminants such as blood, urine, dirty hands and food spills on a daily basis. Bacteria such as MRSA and E. coli pose a threat. Chemicals can also affect walls. Think of detergents and disinfectants, or iodine, but also nitrogen, for example.

To prevent these problems, wall coatings in hospitals must meet a number of very strict requirements.

Requirements of a hospital coating

A good wall coating for hospitals contains the following properties:

Dirt and bacteria repellent

Hospital walls are exposed to dirt and bacteria on a daily basis. They should not adhere to the wall.

Chemical Resistance

Hospital walls are exposed to detergents, disinfectants and other chemicals. This coating should prevent the chemicals from damaging the walls.

Wear resistance

The coating on hospital walls needs to resist wear and tear. In some places, such as public areas and corridors, they will be touched a lot.

Easy to clean

Hospital walls should be easy to clean. This is to prevent the spread of bacteria.

Environmentally friendly

Coatings for hospitals should be environmentally friendly. This means they should not contain harmful substances.

Low change on allergies and no bad odors

Hospital walls should not cause allergic reactions. But they should also not have a pungent odor.

Durability

Coatings for hospital walls should be durable. This means that it should not be necessary to treat the walls frequently. This could be detrimental to the care provided.

Aesthetics

The atmosphere in the hospital is also important for the patient’s recovery. A coating should contribute to the aesthetic appearance of the hospital.
Hospital walls should look nice. This is important for the atmosphere of the hospital.

Easy to apply

The coating should be easy and quick to apply. This is important for cost and labor. But also to not delay the use of the room for a long time.

Can be painted over

Of course, one day you will want to repaint, remodel or make other changes to the walls. Therefore, the coating needs to be paintable or expandable. This means that if a room is enlarged, you can simply continue to work with the coating.
